As a growing UK sandwich manufacturer and supplier, our journey has never been defined by scale alone.
We now operate multiple production sites and distribution hubs across the UK, and our sandwich production supports customers nationwide. Supplying retail, travel, education, hospitality, convenience and food-to-go sectors across the UK, our food production facilities operate at scale whilst exceeding the standards expected of a trusted commercial sandwich manufacturer. But the real story behind our food manufacturing growth lies in the people who have shaped it.
From hand-cut sandwiches in a single production room to a multi-site sandwich
manufacturing operation, our growth has been steady, strategic, and built on strong
foundations.
From Local Sandwich Supplier to Structured Food
Manufacturing Business
In the early days, Tiffin operated as a small local sandwich supplier, close-knit, hands-on and fast-moving.
Today, the business has expanded into a structured food manufacturing company with defined departments, multiple sites, and strategic planning underpinning every stage of production.
Paul Blann, Head of Finance, has seen that transformation first-hand:
“The biggest milestone was moving from being an SME to a large company. In the beginning, we had fewer than 10 people across all departments. To see where we are now with more than 400 people across our sites, it's incredible.”
This shift represents more than financial growth; it marks the evolution into a national sandwich manufacturer operating at scale.
But expansion has never been rushed.
Sustainable growth, consolidation at each stage, and long-term planning have
allowed Tiffin to increase production capacity while maintaining operational control
across sites.
Growing Our Sandwich Production Facilities
Hazel Jones, Operations Manager, began her journey on the production floor when every sandwich was prepared and cut by hand. Those early days were defined by teamwork, shared responsibility, and learning through doing.
As demand increased, so did investment in automation, production lines, and larger production facilities. What began as manual processes evolved into advanced sandwich production supported by modern food manufacturing systems.
Hazel reflects on the journey with pride:
“What makes me most proud is not just how far the business has come, but seeing colleagues grow and develop alongside me. I’ve experienced that growth first-hand. Despite progressing through different roles, I’ve never forgotten my roots, and I have immense respect for our production
operatives.”
Today, with three production sites and six distribution hubs, operations continue to expand,
always with one key focus: maintaining product quality while increasing production efficiency.
Building Careers Alongside Business Growth
One of the defining characteristics of Tiffin, as a national sandwich supplier, is our internal progression.
Danielle Sheridan has worked across packing, efficiency coordination, and leadership roles for over five years, gaining insight into both hands-on operations
and process improvement.
Her experience reflects the culture that underpins the business:
“There’s a strong team mentality, where people are always willing to help each other out, regardless of role. We all have each other's backs, looking out for one another to ensure our customers are satisfied."
That adaptability is essential in a fast-paced sandwich manufacturing environment, where production flow, teamwork, and accountability are all interconnected.
Jade Milner’s eight-year journey, moving from production to technical roles and now Sales Co-Ordinator, echoes the same theme:
“For me, staying this long is down to two things: the people and the progression.”
The opportunity to move between departments, develop new skills and grow with the business has helped build a workforce that understands the full picture, from production floor to customer delivery.
From Production Floor to Brand Growth
Phill Shaw started in sealing and labelling sandwiches when Tiffin was supplying local shops and garages. He has watched the business expand into larger premises and quickly outgrow them.
Reflecting on the biggest driver of that growth, he says:
“Having great people who care about the business helps the business grow
and succeed.”
That internal understanding of operations and scale now strengthens how the Tiffin brand is positioned externally as a trusted UK sandwich manufacturer.
Strategic Leadership and Long-Term Vision.
When Director Mark Salisbury joined in 2020, he immediately recognised the strength already embedded in the business.
His focus for the company was clear:
“The opportunity was to take a first-class regional manufacturer with national aspirations to a first-class national manufacturer.”
Since then, growth has extended across production sites, distribution hubs, systems and operational infrastructure. Behind the headline, sales growth has strengthened, quality management systems have improved cross-site consistency, and continued investment in scalable food production infrastructure. The strategy remains grounded in steady, sustainable expansion, ensuring production, logistics, and culture evolve together.
Scaling a National Sandwich Manufacturer the Right Way
From hand-cut sandwiches to a multi-site food manufacturing operation supplying nationally, Tiffin Sandwiches growth has been deliberate, driven by strategic planning, operational efficiency, technology investment and strong collaboration across teams.
But above all, it has been shaped by its people, because in sandwich manufacturing, how you scale matters much more than how fast you scale.
That’s what makes Tiffin, Tiffin.
